Meeting Riva & Bianca was a special occasion. I agreed to spin at my first gig since COVID restrictions had lifted on September 11th 2021. The event was at Makeshift Philly in Germantown, and it was a Cowboy Bebop themed party hosted by The Living Room. I was very nervous. Had I been too much of a hermit the last two years to win anyone over? Fortunately my set went well, but my favorite surprise of the night was being introduced to Riva & Bianca at 5am. R&B did an amazing deep set that perfectly fit the vibe of the night. As they are a generation below me, it was cool to see the younger generation bringing the funk, combining old school aesthetics with new school production and enthusiasm.
Since then, Riva & Bianca have been on the go. In Philly, they have played at such places as the Dolphin, broad hall., Warehouse on Watts, the Barbary, the 700, the Ave, the Alley, the Sculpture Garden, Silk City, Brooklyn Bowl, Cockatoo, as well as several park parties and secret afters locations. On the road, they have played in DC, New York, Pittsburgh, and Florida, including at festivals such as Elements Music & Arts Festival and Suwannee Hulaween. It's great to see the success of R&B taken to big stages at the festivals, considering they continue to prove their consistent dedication to the Philly underground scene.
