Here at Ancient Puzzle Arts, we never want to miss an opportunity to expand our music history knowledge. And when I finally discovered Lola Kinks through Great Circles Radio, I knew right away she would be a great contribution to our party series.
You can hear from Lola Kinks' taste in vinyl selection that she grew up in a very musical household. Though my Dad introduced me to Kraftwerk at an early age, otherwise music at my house was the same Bob Dylan and Beatles records on a loop. I think when you're immersed with a rich history of very diverse music taste spanning decades at a young age like Lola Kinks, your selection as a DJ matures greatly, and you have an ear for what is a certified classic, or, what can blend into classics. This is Lola Kinks' DJ style. She keeps the momentous energy throughout her DJ sets by connecting lyrics, melodies and grooves in a way that appeals to nerdy eclectics like me, while broadly appealing to any newcomer wanting a fast paced music education.
In early 2025, we finally had Lola Kinks hit the decks at Ancient Puzzle Arts' third place home away from home, Upstairs at the 700. She closed the night out with an absolutely funky as hell set. Fortunately we recorded the set, and for the month of June we are serving you a taste of what it's like to experience Lola Kinks, live in her element, with a recording from that fine night Saturday January 11th.
