When going out to nightlife events, the ratio to people you meet who actually check out your music / art is very small compared to people who don’t. Pre pandemic, I went to see Ciel and Russell Butler DJ at the legendary Sanctuary City party hosted by Elvin T in Philadelphia. I met Gvantsky on the dancefloor, chatted briefly and gave her my DJ card. To my surprise, she actually checked out my music and party series the next day, which was really appreciated after such a memorable night out.
Years later, Gvantsky has accelerated her DJ career. She brings her curiosity and world travels to the dancefloor, having spun at such places as Subsurface, Warehouse on Watts, Vinyl, The Barbary, Say No More, and Dolphin Tavern in Philadelphia, and Holo, Mansions, TBA Brooklyn, and Zion333 in NYC. What I admire a lot about Gvantsky’s DJ style and selection is her dedication to subtly: each blend has a hypnotic, precise, deliberate decision to take you on a journey into the unknown. With a DJ market saturated with “if you’re not red lining, you’re not headlining,” Gvantsky’s progressive and minimalistic sound is especially refreshing to your ears.
Please enjoy this month’s Ancient Puzzle Arts mix brought to you by Gvantsky. Expect soothing ambient, sensual down tempo, bassy minimal and overall attention to detail.
