Just in time for Fall, we have a special mix for the month of November from one of the most dedicated members of Ancient Puzzle Arts, Strglcty. I first met Strglcty back in 2009 in Philly. At the time, we were both into the UK bass music movement, which was particularly creative before it got EDM commercialized. We traveled in similar social circles, and it was an exciting time going to warehouses hearing very gritty, fast, dark and futuristic sounds.
When I moved to NYC and Strglcty moved to Pittsburgh, we remained social media friends but fell out of touch. Fast forward to 2019, we’re both back in Philly and of course reconnected in the club. Strglcty is a very enthusiast, high energy person, so he immediately wanted to get back onto the Philly scene. I introduced him to some of my favorite people, and he was extremely supportive by helping run the door at our APA shows at Silk City before the pandemic shut us down.
During the pandemic, Strglcty upgraded his DJing skills and transferred his joyous dancer energy into his sets. When we were back in action at the 700, he once again helped run the door. Eventually, he was ready to hit the decks at APA finally and opened up the night in 2022 along with DJ Love, me, and DJ Dre.
Since then, he has been building up his record collection significantly, and has been performing at Kwan's party "Higher," which he spins at alongside Manny Roach at the International Bar in Philly. He did a fantastic job on the decks back in October 2023 at the 700.
This mix is an excellent way to hear Strglcty’s wide genre range, amazing ear for rhythmically interesting cuts, and joyous enthusiasm. Now that winter is approaching, get ready for a hot mix!
