Ancient Puzzle Arts Podcast #33: TJ Groover's Global Grooves and Gems Selections:
One thing that keeps me doing APA podcasts month after month is expanding my in person talented DJ and producer contacts. This past summer, a good friend of mine into similar and eclectic DJ culture, Rob, who lives in Pittsburgh, told me to meet his friend TJ who just moved to Philly from Pittsburgh. Having gone to college in Pittsburgh and lived in Philly most of my life, I especially welcome any type of turnpike, across the State connection like this.
After exchanging information, TJ Groover met me at the infamous going away roof top party for Val this past summer (we later learned Val leaves the USA for good like James Murphy "retires" from music haha). TJ seemed really cool upon first impression, and I tried my best to introduce him to some key night life people who were at the party to the best my abilities.
On his own, TJ Groover immediately immersed himself into Philly nightlife, especially in the rich House scene of past and present. He has regularly attended the Shakedown parties, and TJ also came out and supported our last APA party in October 2023. After checking out his awesome music production style and DJ sets online, I had to get him on the podcast series and introduce the APA community to his skills.
This month's mix is a rhythmically impressive, deep, jazzy and modern take on House and Deep House. TJ Groover also adds a hip hop element to his mixing style, with choice hip hop and R&B vocals and samples throughout the mix that gives him a special Pittsburgh to Philly flair.
