Here at Ancient Puzzle Arts, we have a lot of love for Detroit, specifically Detroit Movement Festival. After seeing Audion in 2009 at a Masonic Temple in Detroit, my DNA was forever rearranged to seek underground House and Techno parties and start buying records. I had been exposed to dance nights before, but a well curated rave, Detroit style, forever got imprinted in my brain.
Fast forward to 2024, I finally returned to the Detroit Movement festival 15 years later. A lot has changed....the lineups had more EDM and psytrance than I expected at the main festival, but the underground still remains intact and vibrant in the ever developing Motor City. During my time at Movement festival, I linked up with members of the RVDIOACTIVE crew that were working and attending the festival. We all met up at the beginning of the festival to support Mona Black, a mutual friend who was opening up the festival at the Detroit Stage at the official Detroit Movement festival.
Mona Black delivered a funky, groovin' and uplifting set to warm up the festival. Afterward I got to spend much of the rest of the weekend with Mona, along with the RVDIOACTIVE crew, and it's an honor to now have such a quality friend that calls Motor City home.
For the month of February, Mona Black delivers her unique blend of eclectic, all-things body moving funk. Her use of melody and seamless vocal blending showcases her Detroit refined DJ skills, which continues to educate the world in how do spin with soul!
